Role Overview
As a member of the Commercial Engineering team you will be working alongside colleagues that are experienced in a variety of disciplines, giving you the opportunity to further develop your skills. You will be expected to hit the ground running. Being part of a small team, you will also have the opportunity to really stand out, using your initiative and work ethic to get the job done efficiently. You will be working on new product developments and also to support the active maintenance of existing designs, addressing issues such as new feature additions, fault resolution and component obsolescence. You may be involved in the specification of design requirements, peer reviews, integration testing, compliance testing, manufacturing and test procedure development. Being an ISO accredited organisation, you will be expected to adhere to our internal procedures and follow best engineering practice. It is expected that you will be able to work with moderate supervision and will be considered an effective addition to the Hardware team.The Hardware Engineer will be Designing, developing and maintaining electronic hardware across the Sperry Marine product line Producing electronic drawings and documentation to support the projects authorised by the product line manager Supporting the HW team with system testing activities requested to achieve type approval certificates Supporting the HW team with Change Notes and component Obsolescence management Providing expert help to other departments on aspects of electronics and radar system Carrying out test and debug of new and existing electronics Support the electronic design and schematics changes, when needed. Support external partners in the development and testing of electronics for applications in Sperry Marine Reporting to the Hardware Group Manager (move to the top of the list) Expected to travel for infrequent off-site visits (such as test facilities, suppliers, trade shows, etc) with the further possibility of some international travel as well.Skills & Experience A degree in electrical/electronic engineering or a related discipline. Minimum 3 years' experience in hardware design and test Mixed signal and digital circuit design and system interfacing. Good mathematical knowledge and analytical ability. Good technical writing skills. Experience with one of more professional electronics design tools. Strong IT skills, specifically with MS Office products. Soldering and PCB assembling skills PCB board testing and debug experienceDesirable: 5+ years' experience in hardware design and test Experience of VHDL and FPGA design Experience with using and programming microcontrollers. Knowledge of Microwave and RF principles? Understanding of the marine environment Experience with PADS pro CAD design tool. Knowledge of IEC standards – 60945, 61162 and 62388. Knowledge of UKCA/CE compliance Experience of conducting EMC/Vibration/Environmental/Shock qualification testing with external test houses. Full UK driving license
